Tsunami 2
Almy Tau | July 19, 2006 | 8:11 pmBeen pondering on my previous posts. I could say more, but what’s the use? it’s not going to make the victims better off.
What I can do though, is collect information on what organizations/people/countries are actively involved in the actual dirty work, who’s actually doing the real work of handing food and medicine and blankets to these victims, just for a reference for myself and those who are wondering.

Anytime there’s a refugee situation, UNHCR are supposed to be the ones who handles it.

Red Crescent and Red Cross
Disaster Management Programmes

“The Programme was launched by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Office of the United Nations Disaster Relief Co-ordinator in co-operation with UN Agencies in 1990 and has been endorsed by the Resolution of the General Assembly 46/182 at its 78th Plenary Meeting on 19 December 1991. DMTP has raised awareness of the need for a more effective crisis and disaster management to reduce risks and vulnerabilities.” — I wonder if Indonesia has ever had a similar organization

Hey guess what! There’s actually a career path in disaster management. With all these disasters happening, it almost makes you want to change careers doesn’t it?

Univ of Wisconsin has a nice campus, and there’s a lake nearby. Being a relatively small town, Madison is also pleasant to live in.

From the website: “This site, launched on Tuesday 10 February 2005, is intended to keep you informed about the progress in developing a Regional Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System for the Indian Ocean. Through the time line, displayed above, you will be able to obtain information on the many international events, organized by individual countries as well as by UN agencies, related to follow-up actions to the 26 December 2004 tsunami.“
