Exodus, as in moving to a better place. Not a reference to Ultima..

After the Queen Mary trip, now came the hard part — the actual move. While Almy was busy handling the logistical issues for our move, I handled the administrative part. The company that hired me, although they gave us a bunch of money to move, was pretty hands off as far as relocation.. oops, I didn’t mean hands off.. let’s just say ‘contracted out’. Furthermore the relocation contractor contracted different aspects of the move to different subcontractors. So basically I dealt with 4-5 different companies, and around 10 different individuals. It was a bit challenging at first trying to tell who does what, but it’s OK — I guess relocations are supposed to be handled this way. 27th of May, I signed paperwork at my previous employer that put me officially out of their system. Afterwards, I went home and the packers started working. At noon we checked in to a nearby hotel, where we would stay until the day we move out. I felt sorry for Amira, because all her toys were in the boxes, and we couldn’t play with her since we were concentrating on the move.

So it was a Sunday in California and we were going to move within a week, and we decided to do one last trip to one of the popular tourist spots in Long Beach — the Queen Mary. After a huge meal at the Cheesecake Factory in Redondo Beach, we drove there with the help of our GPS. The weather didn’t look promising at first, but thankfully it cleared up.

It’s been almost a month since we left our old home in California. Now that we’re settled here in Houston, I think I should share our experiences. I’ll start with a quick overview of what we went through:

First of all, we did a ‘goodbye California’ trip to the Queen Mary, on Sunday the 25th of May..

Two days later, the movers came by and whisked away our belongings:

And after a grueling travel day, we finally settled down in an apartment near Clear Lake, TX! (sorry, no pics from the grueling travel day )

Ini dia foto Amira waktu 2 mg lalu kita ke Galveston Island, Texas. Amira alhamdulillah sehat2,, tapi akhir2 ini susah makannya,, heran energinya manjat2 dan lari2 dari mana yak.. Alhamdulillah makin cerewet dan makin bisa ngoceh2. Udah bisa bilang baaaanyak banget kata: dari mama papa, water, nenek, kakak, car, ball, train, door, purple, star, heart, rice, hot, cold, dog, quack (bunyi bebek), cow, horse, apalagi ya banyak deh.. Dia udah tau warna, bentuk, hewan2 apalagi,, seneng banget,, terus hobinya kayak laki2: car dan ball!!!! mungkin ini karena mamanya dulu pengen anak pertamanya laki2 hihihi..

Mohon doanya ya semoga Amira sehat2 terus, jadi anak yg shalehah.. Apalagi minggu depan mau ke Indonesia nih,, Amira makannya kudu bener,, tapi kok susah banget ya,, harus berantem atau ngancem gak ngasih nonton video kesukaan dia dulu baru bisa makan, itu juga kadang2 ancemannya gak mempan.. sigh.. emaknya nih harus lebih kreatip lagi cari ide ngasih makan..
