I guess we were spoiled back in California…

After spending a year in Texas with my family I notice there’s not many places I can bring them to for recreation compared to California. But on the other hand we have been pretty busy mingling with the Indonesian Muslim community in Houston. And we’ve enjoyed every minute of it. So.. I’m just going to count my blessings and not complain about things that aren’t there.

Reminds me of a story of one of the Companions of the Prophet: He went away from the city for a while, and found a beautiful valley, with rolling plains and flowing rivers. He thought to himself, “this would be an awesome place to spend the rest of my life! I can just live here alone and pray everyday until I die”. So he went back to the Prophet and asked him permission to do so. The Prophet Muhammad saw told him, “no. It is better for you to spend your entire life striving in the way of Allah.”
